This covers appropriate use of UWA IT facilities and services

If you are authorised to use UWA IT facilities and services you are responsible for ensuring that you do so in compliance with all the relevant University regulations and polices and Federal and State laws, which include the UWA Computer and Software Use Regulations and related IT policies.

You should be aware that breaches of regulations, policies or laws may attract severe University disciplinary action as well as potential civil and criminal liabilities.

Here are some important points about the use of UWA IT facilities and services:

  • Your student username and password are for your sole use and must not be shared with anyone. This means you are not allowed to give your password to anyone or allow anyone else to use your account.
  • You are expected to check your student e-mail regularly and frequently in order to read official University communications.
  • You must use University IT facilities and services in a manner that is ethical, lawful and not to the detriment of others.
  • You must use only those University IT facilities and services you have been authorised to use.
  • You must comply with any instructions given by the Director of Information Services Division, the Director’s delegate, or any other authorised person. Those instructions may be issued by notice displayed in the vicinity of IT facilities, by letter, by electronic communication, in person or otherwise.
  • When you cease to be an enrolled student, your access to University IT facilities and services will be terminated within a defined period.
  • You are responsible for personal information you have stored on University IT facilities and services and must make arrangements for its retention and/or removal as appropriate prior to leaving the University.
  • You must not use University IT facilities to engage in any commercial or for-profit activities, such as running a business, .
  • You must not, by any means, use University IT facilities and services to create mailing, distribution or address lists for the purpose of mass mailing that may be construed as “spam”.
  • You must not use University facilities and services to engage in any activity that is illegal, fraudulent, harassing, discriminating, obscene, offensive, racist, or that intends to incite violence or hatred.
  • You must comply with the terms of service and codes of accepted conduct as required by social networking environments and communities (including, but not exclusively, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace) when accessing these resources from a University facility. You should be especially aware that your behaviour in these situations, and other public forums, reflects upon both yourself and the University of Western Australia community. It is important to remember that, when you post to these resources, your association with the University may be seen - you should act as an ambassador for the University.
